Björn Asheim

Professor Bjørn T. Asheim a full professor in economic geography and innovation studies at UiS Business School/Centre for Innovation Research, University of Stavanger, Norway. He is also co-founder and professor at CIRCLE, the Centre for Innovation, Research and Competence in the Learning Economy at Lund University, a Centre of Excellence in innovation system research, originally funded by VINNOVA (Swedish Agency for Innovation Systems). In 2006 CIRCLE won the prestigious 10-year Linnaeus grant from the Swedish Research Council as one of 20 excellent research milieus across all sciences.
He was program director for NORSI-PING (Norwegian Research School in Innovation – Program in Innovation and Growth), which is funded by Research Council Norway 2012-2016, and is now deputy director of NORSI 2016-2020.

Björn Asheim has served as an international expert for UNCTAD, OECD, UNIDO, Ministry of Knowledge Economy, South Korea, Department of Economic Development, Abu Dhabi, Kuwait and EU DG XVI, DG Research, and DG Regio as well as on panels for the ESRC (Economic and Social Research Council), UK, the ESF, Research Council of Norway, the National Science Foundation, FCT, Portugal and the Academy of Finland.

Professor Asheim is trained as both a business economist (MSc, The Norwegian School of Economics and Business Administration, Bergen) and an economic geographer (PhD, University of Lund, Sweden). He is well-known internationally for his research in the areas of economic and industrial geography and regional innovation research and has 15.700 Google Scholar citations.
