Francisco Melo


Prof. Francisco S. Melo is a researcher as GAIPS, INESC-ID and an Assistant Professor at the Computer Science Department of Instituto Superior Técnico, University of Lisbon, where he teaches courses on machine learning, planning, and AI.

Since his PhD in 2007, he held appointments in the Computer Vision Lab of the Institute for Systems and Robotics, in Lisbon and in the Computer Science Department of Carnegie Mellon University. His research addresses problems within decision making and machine learning, particularly on reinforcement learning, planning under uncertainty, multiagent and multi-robot systems, and applications in human-robot interaction. He participated on several research projects on these topics, such as the EU funded projects EMOTE and LIREC.

He was the principal investigator of the MAIS-S project, in the area of planning in decentralized multiagent systems funded under the CMU-Portugal program, and is currently the principal investigator of the ERI INSIDE.
