Ramiro Neves is co-PI of the CMU Portugal Program ERI +ATLANTIC: Science and Technology Policy and Innovation Analysis to Maximize the Economic, Environmental and Social Benefits of Deep Sea Exploration and Oil and Gas Development in the South Atlantic Region, with Michael Griffin and Scott Matthews from Carnegie Mellon University.
He is an Associate Professor at the Instituto Superior Técnico da Universidade de Lisboa (IST), member of the Board of IMAR and President of MARETEC.
As a research advisor, he is the coordenator of the Moulding and Environmental Monitoring group of MARETEC and has advised two dozen Ph. D. students and four Master thesis.
He is also currently the coordenator of the Environmental Engineering Ph. D. course at IST. Previsoulsy, he coordinated the Environmental Engineering and the Ecology Management and Marine Resources Modeling Master courses at IST.
Ramiro Neves is currently leading sixteen international projects, that are funded mainly by European FP, INTERREG and LIFE programs and the national ones by the FCT (Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia). These projects aimed at the development of fundamental/strategic research. Research in an interdisciplinary consortium is one of the essential characteristics of this activity, allowing it to develop horizontal research.
