Sebastião Feyo de Azevedo is the Rector of the Universidade do Porto (U. Porto) and a Professor at the Department of Chemical Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Porto (FEUP). Professor Feyo de Azevedo is the representative of the Conselho de Reitores das Universidades Portuguesas (CRUP) and member of the Board of Directors of the CMU Portugal Program. He is also the president, in representation of UPorto, of the General Council of the interface institute in Electrical Engineering (INESC TEC), of the General Assembly of the Interface Institute in Mechanical Engineering and Management (INEGI) and member of the General Assembly of the Porto Business School.
He is a member of several scientific, professional and civic associations, such as Fellow of Ordem dos Engenheiros – Engineers Portugal, member of the Portuguese Academy of Engineering, founding member of the Portuguese Association for Automatic Control (APCA), and founding member of the Portuguese Association of Engineering for Development and Humanitarian Assistance. He was member of the National Council for Science and Technology and was Dean of Engineering and before that the head of Department of Chemical Engineering at FEUP.
His areas of interest, both in research and teaching, are in Process Systems Engineering, Instrumentation and Control. His other specific interest is in Higher Education – the Bologna Process and Higher Education with special emphasis in Chemical Engineering Curricula and Education and in higher education management. He holds a second-cycle degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Porto and a Ph.D in Chemical Engineering from the University of Wales (Swansea).
Professor Feyo de Azevedo is the recipient of several national and international distinctions and awards, namely the Dieter Behrens Award, 2013, highest distinction of the European Federation of Chemical Engineering.
