Sofia Cavaco is an Assistant Professor at the Computer Science Department, Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia, Universidade Nova de Lisboa (FCT-UNL) and a reseacher at NOVA LINCS, FCT-UNL. She holds a PhD and MSc in Computer Science from Carnegie Mellon University and an MSc from the University of Edinburgh, UK. Previously she worked at SISCOG, Portugal, and was a Research Assistant at Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Sofia is the principal investigator of the BioVisualSpeech ERI. Her research focuses on the analysis of sound structure. She develops methods to model, classify and synthesize the sound structure of natural and musical sounds. In addition, her research group uses these methods to develop software applications which include tools and serious games for speech therapy, for the blind, and other special needs groups.
